About the adventure

In this horror game, we will explore the hidden depths of terror found in Power Rangers' mile-wide plot holes and under its cheerful masks. Through the course of the game, your hapless teenage character and their friends will become the new Power Rangers, discover why previous Teams of Rangers all died, and try to escape the same fate while also defending the town. Getting answers won't be easy, and spotting the lies even harder. When everyone who knows the truth wants something in exchange, who will you decide to trust? Gameplay is fast-paced using the easy-to-learn Fate Accelerated system. I'll teach you the system in the first session and how to use its great flexibility to support whatever wild path your characters decide to walk. Heavy roleplaying and mystery-exploration are the main dishes in this game, with side helpings of epic superhero cinematic combats and occasional giant robots.

About me

I tripped and fell over GMing when I ran a "3-month" 7th Sea campaign at the end of college that is still going today, 16 years later. I've run several other campaigns and a whole ton of convention one-shots, including games at the convention I helped run for a number of years. I'm a professional GM because gaming is the most fun thing I can imagine doing for money! and because I want to share my skills with more people. Collaborative storytelling is a powerful way to enjoy life and transform ourselves, and I think everyone should do it. One of my favorite things is introducing new players to role-playing, so reach out if you're a newbie in need of mentoring! Especially because my games often run toward more intense themes, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and feeling safe is a huge priority. At my tables we talk about triggers ahead of time and work through interpersonal conflict as often as we can. That said, people just interested in spreading hurtful stereotypes are not welcome to stay. LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent GM welcoming all your identities, especially the marginalized ones. Outside of gaming, I'm a Pagan spiritual leader, singer, parent of 4, and avid gardener. What amazing stories will we tell together?

Character creation

Creating your character

In the first session, you'll design your high-school-best-buddies characters together based on high school tropes like "Jock," "Nerd," "Theater Kid," etc. We'll interweave backstories, and then you will get a surprise extra element to your character to reflect how growing up in Angel Grove has affected you.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The best preparation is to remember your favorite superhero stories. Did you grow up watching Power Rangers? Another superhero or Sentai series? What did you love (or hate!) about these stories? How did they inspire you? Let's fold elements from those into our narrative! Technology and Dice: Good audio and video help a lot! Make sure you have a working camera and mic for your laptop. Players in my games have video on by default -- facial cues help so much, both for making friends and for knowing when we're talking over each other! You'll join my Discord server, Oaksong Games, as our main gaming platform. Last, you'll need 4 or more 6-sided dice, or FATE dice if you want to get fancy about it.

What Connor brings to the table

This is a welcoming table, including both marginalized identities and different levels of experience with role-playing. Come to tell a great story, and we'll work out the rest together. I am a rules-light GM. Power Rangers sure do get into combat a lot, but I veer toward cinematic and Rule-of-Cool rather than crunchy. Combats will be epic and move quickly, not bogging down with complex rules. To add to the immersive experience of this game, I offer a custom Spotify playlist, a Discord server to coordinate before, during, and after sessions, custom battle maps and tokens, optional ambient music, and way too many years of watching Power Rangers reruns.

How Connor creates a safe table

In Session 0, we'll build characters and learn the system. We'll also talk about the Lines and Veils around the table, which means the topics that are particularly sensitive for each player, to make sure that the game is fun and not . We'll also go over some norms for resolving conflict at the table and decide on aftercare methods that work best for the players.
