Meet the Game Master
About me
I am Kyle, the GameBastard, the main GM for the BastardQuest actual play podcast. We've got over 100 episodes, and have played 25+ different games. If you want to listen to me run a game, you can find us on the YouTube link on this page, Spotify, or wherever fine podcasts are distributed freely. Iāve played RPGs regularly for 30 years. Mostly, I've been the GM. I have tens of thousands of hours running games of all types. I started with D&D, of course, but have also played Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, Shadowrun, Star Wars (multiple versions), Fading Suns, Burning Wheel, Vampire, Werewolf, Dune, A Good Society, Alien, Achtung! Cthulhu, Marvel (FASERIP, Heroic, Multiverse), and way too many more. I've also been running games online since 2008 and understand this format well. I'm also definitely a human person. I went to college, got a job in marketing, married my wife, performed improv, had kids, started consulting, etc. But, mainly, yeah, I'm a gamer.

Creating your character
This is a campaign about Chaos Space Marines. We will use the current edition of Wrath & Glory, and convert the Loyalists to our needs. We will create our Chaos Space Marine warband and our Marines in the first session. Come with ideas, but please wait until Session Zero to make your character. Our characters will be Tier 3.
Currently, our roster of traitors includes a Thousand Sons Sorcerer, an Alpha Legion sniper, an Alpha Legion close combat specialist, and a Plague Marine Terminator. Want to get a feel for my gamemaster ability? Check out the BastardQuest Actual Play podcast where I'm the lead GM!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A microphone is required, and a webcam is optional. You will need an account with Roll20 (free) and Discord (free). While it is useful to have access to the core rules, this is not required. The PDF is available on DriveThru for those interested.
What The GameBastard brings to the table
We will use Roll20 for any necessary dice rolls, handouts, maps, character sheets, etc. We will use Discord for Video-Chat. My GM style relies very heavily on character motivations and player drive. While the first scenario will be set for the players, choices matter, and what happens next comes down to them. All you really need though is a desire to roleplay your character, and the maturity to play well with others.

How The GameBastard creates a safe table
In Session 0 we'll discuss Lines and Veils, and other safety tools. After each session, we'll discuss Stars and Wishes (and XP!). Further debriefing and discussion can take place in group or one-on-one after the session is over. This is a campaign that takes place in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium. It is a not-nice place. It is Warhammer 40k from the Chaos point-of-view. They are not-nice people ruled by thirsting gods. A lot of bad things are going to happen. That's in the fiction though. There is no room at my table for Real-Life sexism, racism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, abuse, aggression, bullying, or any other kind of toxic behavior against any other player. You get one warning only, because anyone can make a mistake. After that, you're gone, but if it's really egregious, you won't even get a warning.
