About the adventure

The Verse, as it is so lovingly called by those lucky enough, or unlucky enough, to live in it, is what the less open-minded among us would refer to as an anarcho-capitalist hellscape. For those at the top of the proverbial financial food chain, it is referred to as something closer to a paradise. The two largest corporations in the universe, Friendship Inc. and Amazone, both decided that it would be silly as all get-out to try to build up their own companies to infringe on each other's niches (Entertainment and Media for Friendship Inc., retail and manufacturing for Amazone). The obvious solution: merge together to create a final, single entity that could truly reach the mystical potential of capitalism. The last step: start buying out those pesky governments who keep trying to rEguLaTe tHeM. It went even better than you'd expect, and the first galactic level unification of systems was born, under the banner of a company, not a government. Yikes. You can live a couple of ways, as far as I reckon. You can try to make it on your own, supporting the few and far between causes still alive in a world as ridiculous as this one, or you can join up and become the most effective cog you can be in the single largest machine in the history of existence. What's it gonna be, partner? Teens in Space is a narrative-forward system that puts more control of the plot in the hands of the players than a typical ttrpg. What will you and your party do? Join the corporate overlords? Fight back and form a resistance? Try to make a living through odd jobs, criminal or otherwise? That's up to all of you! Much of the story and setting is decided by questions to you and your party during session 0 and character creation, so it is sure to be a uniquely crafted experience just for you. This is a whacky setting and a rules-light system, so things are bound to get pretty bonkers pretty quickly. If this sounds like fun, then I'll see you in the stars.

How to prepare

We'll be playing over Discord voice chat, so a working mic and access to discord is pretty much necessary. A webcam isn't necessary but I think it can be fun to be able to see your fellow crewmembers, so feel free to turn it on if you have one. Having a copy of the rules would be awesome, but I'll have one to share with everyone once we start playing. We're making characters together in session 0, and I'm gonna have a dice roller bot in the discord so you don't need to buy yourself physical dice unless you feel like it.

What I provide

Because of the narrative structure in the system of Teens in Space, it is all played in theater of the mind, so no maps get brought into the equation. However, I love using music and concept art/unique voices for all of my custom made NPCs and locations to make the world feel more immersive. The system itself is huge on letting the players have control over what happens during their successes, and even some of their failures, so rule of cool will be a huge thing in the campaign. Combat in the Verse, and the game, is fast and decisive, with each action potentially having fight-ending consequences. After all, getting shot by a blaster or two is tough to shrug off for anybody. But because of the free-flowing system, combat is just another part of the narrative, and a failure doesn't even necessarily mean anything bad. Creative solutions and flavorful descriptions are the name of the game, and I'm gonna bring every ounce of my screenwriting-background chops to hopefully knock your space cowboy boots right off.

Gameplay details

During character creation and session 0, I will do everything in my power to explain the safety tools I'll be using for anyone unfamiliar, as well as the type of content people would like to see or not see in the game moving forward. Any lines and veils can be brought up with me by private message during this time, and in case anything gets forgotten during session 0, or if someone figures out that something else bothers them later, X, N, and O cards are there to cover for the mistake. The game is only fun if we're all having fun, so safety tools are incredibly important for me. I'm also a big believer in things like aftercare and check-ins after sessions to make sure we're all having fun and on the same page (and that there's no bleed happening into outside of the game).

How will character creation work

The way the party functions together and in their ship is so integral to the campaign and game that we'll do it together during session 0. The plan is for session 1 to essentially be a jail break where you will all need to work together to steal a ship (or steal back your own) and escape from Friendship Incorporated, so all you folks need to do before session 0 is brainstorm some character concepts and start coming up with reasons you would have for not getting along with galaxy-wide corporations.
