About the adventure

Investigating the odd, the eldritch, the unknown. The occult. This job pays better than most of them, which is a blessing in this industry. You do this out of the goodness of your heart and a desire not to see the world destroyed. Not because it pays well. 13 years ago, a Southern gentleman by the name of Walter Winston traveled the country, maybe the world, on some sort of occult mission. There, they found disaster. Winston returned to his family home in Georgia a changed man, forbidding his daughter Janet to ask questions about where he went and what happened there. Now that Walter’s six feet under, Janet has questions, and she thinks you might be able to find the answers. Most of the time, these jobs make you tread where no one has gone before. This is different — as you walk in the footsteps of an organization just like your own, your fate comes barreling towards you as fast as theirs did. From Los Angeles to Bangkok, Malta to Mexico City, the Yucatán Jungle to Ethiopia, something terrible is not just coming. Part of our Session 0 will involve discussing players’ comfort levels with potentially triggering subjects, and the game can be altered to minimize or avoid certain elements. Players who join mid-campaign should discuss these topics with the GM during weekly office hours. Certain themes are so central to the text that to remove them from the game would be to fundamentally alter the campaign. All Trail of Cthulhu games, as part of the cosmic horror genre, directly tackle body horror and insanity within their pages. This campaign additionally includes a scene that takes place at a drug-fueled orgy, and investigators may be asked to amputate a limb if it is touched by evil. Tabletop role-playing games are meant to be an escape from the horrors of the real world. Above-table prejudices such as racism, misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia are unacceptable at my table and will lead to your immediate removal without refund, as well as a ban from all future tables hosted by this GM.
