Curse of Strahd - Mistwalker | Beginner & 🏳️🌈 Friendly |
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Under the raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. The vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about him, billowing his cape in the darkness. Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power- and of madness. His once handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind's howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his ken, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd's face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they have come-all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them. Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle's towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind-or perhaps a lone wolf-fills the midnight air. The master of Raven loft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.
Far beyond the veil of our eyes, lies a valley surrounded by mist, hidden from our sight - A land of dread and terror, filled with mysteries and forgotten lore. Did misfortune bring you to Barovia, or did you cross into the unknown with purpose? Do you seek power and ancient knowledge, perhaps treasure beyond your wildest dreams? Or was it necessity that brought you here, in search of someone dear who's been lost? Keep your convictions close at heart, Mistwalker. You will have to, if you hope to survive this nightmare. Every Saturday night, 9pm EST!

I have now played quite a few sessions with Gibrand, and I have truly enjoyed every minute. Gib is an exceptional storyteller. His portrayal of NPCs is top notch and he does great voice work without being over the top. His audiovisual efforts and attention to detail really help the immersion. He runs a tight game with a good balance between permitting creativity and "rule of cool" while sticking reasonably to the rules. Your taste may vary, but for me he hits the sweet spot of story vs combat... He provides the plot-oriented players plenty to chew on but also gives ample opportunity to throw down in combat. He is running Curse of Strahd for our particular campaign but has enhanced the base material with a ton of his own quality content and personal touches. It has truly been a pleasure and privilege to sit at his table, and I highly recommend you give him a chance as well!
Iv been in one of Gibzx's games for a couple of weeks now and man o' man I cannot express how much fun it is! I look forward to game time every week and every game session does not disappoint. Gibzx is a very kind, knowledgeable and organized DM. The group I'm currently in has people of all DnD experience from novice to highly experienced and the way Gibzx runs the group we don't ever skip a beat. Being the novice player of the group myself, I feel very welcomed and cared for. If you're looking for a new game to jump into definitely consider joining one of Gibzx's games!
I have played with Gibzx for approximately 6 months, his way of saying things and knowledge are superb. We have a person that is blind and one person that spend a lot of time in hospital, Gibzx juggles all these issues and even has the time time to add some music that plays in the background that adds to the atmosphere and settings that he sets for us all. He is extremely open to knew age characters and the liberal use of same, with fairness across the board. A highly intelligent, highly creative person. He will be my D.M for awhile, if he puts up with me.

Gameplay details
I want all my players to have a good time and be comfortable above all, and CoS being a grim gothic horror campaign doesn't change that! Session 0 will serve to discuss the lines and veils of what additional boundaries players wish to set, but keep in mind that this also applies beyond session 0! I am always open to additional discussion during the campaign, and adjusting accordingly. This is a welcoming table, and I am always willing to work together to be as inclusive as possible. :)

How will character creation work
I like to divide character creation into two categories, thematically and mechanically. On note of the former: The land of Barovia is filled with many groups, individuals, factions and situations that will place characters in a wide variety of choices to be made - make sure to think hard about what kind of person your PC is! their morals and philosophies, creeds and allegiances, history and aspirations - the path you walk in Curse of Strahd will shape your story, so be prepared! I'll provide starting bonus inspiration for players who provide me with 5 or more character knives ^^ As for the latter category of character creation, here you go! have fun crunching numbers and theorycrafting!: -Level 3 starting point, Standard Point Buy System (27) -Standard racial modifiers or Customizing Origin (Tasha's) -Basic starting equipment + 30 gold budget for additional equipment. - All official WoTC 5e material sources allowed, and homebrew is up for DM approval after discussion (i.e. Matt Mercer's Bloodhunter, Keith Baker's Eberron Expanded, etc.)
