About the adventure

I do not expect you to have any experience with this system or TTRPGs, I will provide all the rules necessary. The world of darkness is a dark reflection of our own. The shadows loom longer here, and the night is more reluctant to yield to day. Corruption runs rampant. You play vampires. You look human, you talk human, you smile like a human, but your heart does not beat. Wrestle with your inner beast as you navigate the political intrigue of the vampiric court; hide from vampire hunters who threaten to drag you into the light and shed your own light on the doom whose prophecy precipitated your vampiric embrace. Our adventure begins in the fictional city of Lowthorpe in the northeast of England. Ancient vampires have risen from their slumbers foretelling of doom. London has been purged of vampires, are we next? The blood of the elders conspires against us and bends our will. Only the young are safe – for now. You play as a group of fresh-faced vampires who have been tasked with saving the city. This game system is very dark, I do my best to inject humour into my games through my NPCs and moments of hope in the darkest places. Expect the world to be harsh. This game does not let you off easily with death. Consequences must be faced. The game is a rules-light skill that emphasizes risk management and loss of control. Vampire the Masquerade is a game of personal horror that focuses on playing the monster. This is not an excuse to be a monster. I will not tolerate discrimination against myself or anyone else. I will run a session-zero setting boundaries (this session will be free). NOTE: The game is played at 18:30 GMT.

How to prepare

You will need Discord, a webcam and a mic. You do not need any rules or character. That's it! If you are joining mid-campaign I will run a free short one on one session to get you up to speed.

What I provide

I bring a roster of fleshed-out NPCs and locations which make Lowthorpe a living, breathing city. I embrace chaos, my games take wild turns and force me to improvise. At my table, there is no railroad. I provide all the rules and five years experience of running this game system. I have run this scenario for four different groups of players. Each took approximately eight months. All had unique adventures: one ended in a climatic TPK, one saved the city, one made a deal with the devil and the final group took the fight to the enemy.

Gameplay details

I will be going over safety in the free session 0. I have tagged many content warnings and safety tools. We will talk about the safety tools in this session zero. The setting is based on the real world which includes discrimination and other terrible things, this can be changed or removed. The game has a morality system which will guide what topics we wish to explore and what we would rather avoid. If you decide that this game is not for you after the session zero you may leave the game free of charge.

How will character creation work

We will make characters in session zero. We will use the rules given in the core rules book although options from supplements will be available. I have a handy word document that will walk you through the process. Some secret bits of character creation will be done over messages so that the other players don't know!
