About the adventure

I love Middle Earth, Every year since I was thirteen I have watched the Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy in December. Five years ago I added The Hobbit trilogy for Thanksgiving, and started listening to all 4 books from The Hobbit to Lord of the Rings on Audiobook, one a month from September to December (Andy Serkis narration, thank you). Last year I celebrated hobbit day by making a full seven meals inspired by Middle-Earth. As I said, I love Middle-Earth, and this year I want to celebrate a whole weekend of Hobbits. The One Ring starter set has a series of adventures which I plan to run Friday Night September 21, Saturday Evening September 22, and Sunday Afternoon September 23- Hobbit Day. These adventures are set in the Shire, they have Shire level stakes, and Shire level adventures. This is about roleplaying and exploration more than combat, though combat can occur. There are six premade conspirators set to meet in Mad Bagginses sitting room; Rorimac Brandybuck, Primula Brandybuck, Paladin Took II, Lobelia Bracegirdle, Esmerelda Took and Drogo Baggins. Players will get to choose from available characters once they've signed up for the game. I will unbox the starter set and review the contents 30 minutes before the session is to officially begin. You can join the session at this time to review the lore and get familiar with the setting. I have estimated 4-4.5 hours of playing on Friday, 5-5.5 hours of playing on Saturday, and another 4-4.5 hours of playing on Sunday. You're still reading this because you, too, love Middle-Earth, you probably have a hobbit waistcoat, or a hobbit mealtime art in your kitchen. Let's go to the Shire together!

How to prepare

If you haven't played "The One Ring" 2e roleplaying game, I highly suggest looking up videos describing the gameplay, I will go over the rules as we begin the game, but prior familiarity with the base mechanics will help us get into our hobbitselves a bit quicker. You will need paper, a pencil, a way to access discord (tablets, computers) that includes a microphone, and a camera if you want to seen. You'll also need 4 6-sided dice and 2 12-sided dice, or a set of "The One Ring" Dice if you have them.

What I provide

I will provide you with your player sheets before the game. I will have the starter set for "The One Ring" as well as the full rulebook for the game. I will have the dice and manuals, and a camera for roleplaying purposes. This adventure doesn't require highly technical combat so it will mostly be theater of the mind adventure. I will attempt to give characters unique voices and accents, but I'm told by my friends that it always turns into a Scottish accent before long. I will have ambient music, and will send illustrations from the adventure into the chat.

Gameplay details

This is a role-play and exploration focused adventure set within the Shire, expect the stakes to be Shire level stakes, and while combat can happen, it isn't the focus, and can usually be avoided. I don't anticipate anything more dangerous or triggering than the first two hours of Fellowship, or Unexpected journey. I will make Monte Cook's checklist available ahead of time, and players will be able to privately message X,N, or O as well as an after session discussion of stars and wishes. Also, I will likely have some music, sound effects, or background art in order to build the mood, if you have trouble concentrating with music, or if it triggers you to hear music while playing a TTRPG, be advised now.
