Planescape: Turn of Fortune's Wheel [Play-by-Post]

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

💡 Beginners to D&D welcome! 🏰 Explore Sigil, the City of Doors which is shaped like the inside of a donut! ⚔️ Face memorable enemies from foul monsters to unhospitable shopkeepers! Official Description: ------ A multiversal glitch returns several souls to life in Sigil, the impossible city at the center of the Outer Planes. Uncertain of who they are and seeking answers, these wanderers must explore the City of Doors, contend with mighty immortals, and chronicle the farthest reaches of the Outlands. In doing so, the adventurers discover a plot to undermine the rules of reality and have a chance to recover their true identities. ------ New to Play-by-Post? No problem! It is a low-stress, highly-rewarding format and I'll help you every step of the way. [Play-by-Post] Do you want to join a campaign but your availability prevents you from committing regularly? Does engaging at your own pace throughout the week without the pressure of the moment and with access to live chats with your Dungeon Master sound appealing? Well you're in the right place! The Play-by-Post (PbP) format is nearly as old as D&D and is a rewarding way to engage in this fantastic pastime. While it is true that the comradery of the kitchen table is lost in PbP, you gain the ability to plan without pressure, to refine your roleplay, to research your actions. And many see Play-by-Post as more immersive than live games, that the Theater-of-the-Mind is more easily engaged without the distractions of half-decent accents, the bell of midnight quickly approaching, and the smell of aging nachos. *Note: This adventure is Play-by-Post and will be conducted throughout the week at your pace. While live check-ins with me are available, the adventure will be conducted in Discord channels where we will also store concept art, maps, a compendium of magic items, a room for chit chat, and more. Please send me a message if you'd like to know more.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Great DM, very helpful at every step. His worldbuilding and the way he put you into the world with his descriptions were amazing, I would recommend him for anyone wanting to try PbP

He provides what is the most crucial component of TTRPGs to me: Being willing to bend the story as is suitable to account for the actions of the players, to show that their actions can actually have consequences

I was initially skeptical about playing in a Play-by-Post (PbP) game, especially with a system as detailed and crunchy as Pathfinder 2e. However, this GM has completely changed my perspective. They keep the game moving at a steady and engaging pace, which is no small feat in a PbP format. Their ability to manage the mechanics while ensuring the story progresses smoothly has made the experience far more dynamic and enjoyable than I anticipated. The GM’s knowledge of the rules is impressive, but they balance that with a willingness to embrace player creativity. They’re open to ideas and find ways to incorporate them into the game without sacrificing the integrity of the system. Their approach makes the game feel collaborative and immersive, creating an experience that is both rewarding and fun. If you’re considering a PbP game and want a GM who knows the system and keeps the action alive, I highly recommend them.

It takes a special GM to keep PBP going smooth. Grant is exactly that. Pacing is right in the sweet spot, not too rushed and not lagging behind. Highly recommend!

Grant had a good grasp of the game mechanics and did an excellent job explaining them to me as a newcomer to the system. He also was very good at character development and provided an entertaining experience.

Additional details

How to prepare

You'll need a phone, computer, or laptop, of course. You'll also need an Account with Discord. Maps will be shared by me. Come with a rough idea of what you want to play but be flexible. If you're a beginner, let me know and we can work on this together!

What I provide

We'll house all character art, maps, notes, NPC info, etc. in a Discord server I manage. I use Tupperbox to display the various NPCs and give a deeper sense of immersion. I'll run maps through Owlberar Rodeo with a vast library of assets but use concept art for most exploration and roleplay.

Gameplay details

Each player will have their own, private channel within the server if they need to reach out to me for any reason. I'm also available to talk over video chat upon request. We will have a Session 0 in a Discord server devoted to that. We'll all check off the Monte Cook Checklist before we begin.

How will character creation work

We will have a Session 0 where we get to know one another, discuss the "truths" of the campaign, share our character concepts, and build character bonds together. We'll plan to come away from Session 0 with a number of questions to flesh out in order to more deeply flesh out our characters and bonds. I'll follow up on those questions throughout the first week to support you.
