Crimson Odyssey - Epic Science Fiction Space Adventure in SW5e

Crimson Odyssey - Epic Science Fiction Space Adventure in SW5e

Star Wars 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

In the far future of the Milky Way, humanity has made its home in the stars. It has made many friends and enemies, and the thousands of wars throughout history have scarred the heavens with the malice and greed of conquest. Billions displaced, worlds destroyed, and nations subjugated. The Terran Alliance endured through the assistance of the many "benevolent" corporations that have thrived through the interim. Almost every stellar organization is led by one or more megacorporations, their fingers in every intergalactic pie. Only a handful of nations out amongst the stars can claim they are their own. For now. You are a reclamation team employed by the Steinar Archaeon Corporation, an archaeological organization that sends out exploration and clearance teams to ruins belonging to any number of fallen empires. Recently ruins have been discovered belonging to a millennia-gone empire. Their name is unknown, so you've been operating with the name of the planet they've been found on: Zaltaran, on the planet Zaltar-4. Your job is to investigate the ruins, explore its halls, and take back anything that may be worth something. Historians all over the galaxy will love everything from this place, be it some fancy pottery, 3D scans of artwork, or archaic technology. This is an easy way to make money, or at least it should be. They've even given you the suits to allow you to traverse the lifeless landscape of Zaltar-4, free of charge! Better than most other corps you've worked for, eh? *This campaign is set in a universe of my creation, filled with despotic megacorps, a multitude of alien species, powerful technology, fun and interesting places to visit, combat both on planets and in space, and unique characters for you to meet and interact with. With the modular nature of D&D5e, we will be using the Star Wars 5e ruleset for its space combat, technological weapons and armor, and tech skills. Force-related powers and skills have been turned into psychic powers and skills, a newly discovered ability that has just entered into our universe.

Game style

Rule of Cool (RoC)

“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Party notes

**Half off your first session! This applies to both Session 0 and Session 1! Reduced price for first sessions after Session 1** *We are currently level 4!* Welcome to the Crimson Odyssey! An epic science fiction space adventure utilizing the Star Wars for 5th Edition ruleset. If you enjoy such scifi classics as the Expanse, Dune, or the ruleset's namesake Star Wars, you'll enjoy this setting. Set in the far distant future, Earth has traversed and made its home amongst the stars. They made friends and enemies, they blew up stuff, and they grew as a culture. On top of all of this, giant megacorporations have grown and become their own national entities. Now, we have giant alien kingdoms, megacorps controlling massive sectors of space, and small civilizations all trying to eke their way across the galaxy. Religions have changed, identities amongst species and cultures have changed, and the advent of psionic abilities has altered the landscape of the galaxy. Take up the role of a contracted employee, a mercenary hired by a corporation to investigate and explore ancient ruins of fallen empires from millennia past. Find cool stuff, sell it, get sweet credits, and buy stuff. But what happens when you find something far greater than a few pots, cool rocks, and fancy artwork? Find out within our campaign, the Crimson Odyssey! I can't wait to play with you!

How to prepare

You will need a working microphone, an account with Discord, and a working web browser for Foundry to fully participate in this campaign. A webcam is allowed if everyone is comfortable with it, otherwise microphones are enough. If you would prefer to use text to communicate or need assistance with participating, please let me know and I will help you to the best of my ability.

What I provide

We will be using Foundry for our VTT utilizing the SW5e compendium and ruleset. There will be custom maps, tokens, and additional content to fit the setting. For those new to the SW5e system, it functions similar to normal D&D5e save for the addition of technology as a skill and the lack of arcana, alongside more tools and a points system for magic/powers instead of spell slots. As this takes place in our universe, there will be appliances and devices that are new, old, and with a fancy twist to them. I will be using voices and ambient music to set the scenes, and combat music to give combat a bit more oomph. This is a system that relies on cover for ranged weapons and mobility for melee weapons, so cover and positioning matter most during combat. Find walls, crates, and other forms of cover to help prevent you from taking too much damage. I prefer it when my players think and act outside of the box to achieve their goals. It's far more fun to do stupid yet effective things than to be rule-lawyered into the ground. Granted, there are times when rules need to be followed to keep everything equal. Each character is different and designed differently. It makes sense that one can leap over a table while another has to roll under or go around it.

Gameplay details

Triggers and limits will be discussed on the Discord server via voice chat or direct messaging during Session 0. Breaks will be taken at the halfway mark or when needed. As this is a modern game, any breaks revolving around current content are always allowed. I have a zero-tolerance policy for mistreatment of fellow players and those who choose to take negative stances where "it's what my character would do" or promote a phobic mindset are not welcome. Toxic acts, statements, and roleplay are not welcome. Meta-gaming and power gaming are discouraged. We're here to have fun and escape from reality for a bit, after all. Since we are using the SW5e ruleset, obviously this is no a Star Wars game. We will be using its weapons, armor, classes, subclasses, races, and backgrounds. Some will be changed to fit the setting - such as force powers becoming psionic ones, and Jedi/Sith backgrounds being turned into psionic ones - while most will stay the same. Additional content will be provided as a compendium on Foundry, the VTT we will be using.

How will character creation work

Characters will be made before or during Session 0, where we will roll stats using the Avrae discord bot on the server. Characters will start at level 3, with all races and classes within SW5e being allowed with some changes to the force classes as previously mentioned. Keep in mind what kind of position your character would have on a ship and communicate effectively with your fellow players to this extent.
