Phandelver and Below: What Lives Underneath The City?

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Evil is lurking in the beloved town of Phandalin, and you are the only one who can stop it! Starting at level one, you will solve mysteries and stamp out the growing corruption uncovering more about the malevolent cult that are plaguing this classic town. As darkness swirls and evil powers continue to grow, it will come down to your choices as to how the world will turn out. For those of you unfamiliar with it, here are some reviews of this soon to be iconic adventure: +"What you will find inside is a beautifully rendered romp through the countryside of The Forgotten Realms’ Sword Coast, filled with both dungeons and dragons as well as a lovely little border town in peril." +"The next Dungeons & Dragons campaign is a fantastic follow-up to Baldur's Gate 3..." I look forward to your attempts to explore the epic, esoteric corners of the Forgotten Realms and to maybe even survive this! For those of you unfamiliar with how I run this game, here are some reviews from those that have played DnD 5e with me: +"He is an excellent dungeon master both in and out of the game. His knowledge of both D&D 5e rules and campaign setting information is excellent... Even without setting knowledge on my end have I been able to easily picture the world he runs!" +"He's really generous with beginners and rewards creativity. It's great to have a DM that's encouraging of some fun, non-gameplay impacting shenanigans."

Recruiting notes

Just finished the first half and will be diving in to The Obelisk, where you uncover the truth of what is going on deep underground and far beyond. You will be joining at level five!

I've played many sessions with Jacob and can say he's exactly what you want in a DM. He comes with a plan, but is able to pivot as necessary. He follows the "rule of cool." He does a great job of including all players, ensuring those that haven't interacted recently get a chance to do something. He's receptive to new ideas to improve the flow of the campaign. I'd definitely recommend him for anyone who wants to play with any range of experience and personality!

An absolutely fantastic Dungeon Master! Their storytelling is immersive, their world-building is rich with detail, and they keep the game engaging for everyone. They balance roleplay, combat, and puzzles perfectly while adapting seamlessly to player choices. On top of that, their chaotic and silly energy makes every session an unpredictable, hilarious adventure. Highly recommended for an unforgettable tabletop experience!

Jacob has an engaging, flamboyant storytelling style I find very entertaining and enjoyable. He elicits participation from his players by having them describe appearances and events making his games ensemble performances that pull in even the quiet and hesitant participants.

Jacob made a safe, fun, supportive, open-ended environment. I joined the game to hang out with a friend very late into the campaign. I made a lvl 16 wizard with shreds of a backstory, Jacob found ways to hook it into the world and the plot, and the group welcomed me easily. I had a great time as a supporting character and enjoyed all the opportunities to develop a personal quest along the way.

Jacob was such an incredible GM! My friends and I had such a great time playing - we were a mix of people super experienced at RPGs, new to the system and new to TTRPGs period and Jacob made sure everyone had a good time and contributed. My friend who is really new to TTRPGs said "it was like improv but not at all scary". Personally, my face hurt the next day from laughing. A+++++++ would play again!!!

Jacob takes the time to make sure everyone is on the same page as they play, he is able to create worlds with his words and provide a safe space to explore new topics and adventures. I would 10/10 recommend Jacob to any player as a GM!

Additional details

How to prepare

The game will be done with Discord and Owlbear Rodeo. As such, you will need a functioning internet connection and microphone/headset device. I would highly recommend as well a dedicated device for the game, either phone or computer. You may roll digitally or physically.

What I provide

I will bring a fully fleshed out adventure that will respond dynamically to your choices in this iconic setting for 5e. Moreover, this will all be done in a uniquely built discord for the game that will serve as hub for all of your note keeping and player choices. You will get to live your dream version of this campaign!

Gameplay details

This will be an epic campaign that leans into all my favorite parts of Dungeons and Dragons. To make we are able to embrace that atmosphere, safety is of the utmost importance. We will begin with a Session Zero that will include filling out the Monte Cook RPG Consent Check list. During play we will use a variant of X, N, and O Cards called Yellow/Red Cards as well as an Open Door Policy. We will also have a regularly scheduled Break.

How will character creation work

We will be starting with level one characters that will be made as part of the Session Zero. I would recommend preparing a few character concepts beforehand so we can make sure every player can be perfectly tied into the world and team.
