About the adventure

Greetings True Believers! Welcome to a yet-unseen Earth in the Marvel multiverse, where you'll play a new group of Rank 2-3 heroes (original or pre-generated, your choice) gathered in New York City to step into a bigger universe of heroes and villains! Working together you'll tackle missions against your favorite Marvel villains, some classic some re-imagined, lasting 2-3 sessions each. Each mission will give you the chance to ally yourself with iconic characters, develop new abilities and powers using a dynamic ongoing upgrade system, and define your team's place in a vibrant and wide undiscovered Marvel Universe! Each encounter is custom designed and playtested for balance and clarity. This guarantees players face new and exciting challenges, but nothing their skills, courage, and innovative thinking can't overcome. Then, once the groundwork is laid, the story is handcrafted with settings and characters right off the players' wish-lists! Young or old, brand new to RPG space or experienced player, casual Marvel enjoyer or dedicated fan; this game is the perfect opportunity to become the hero of your own dynamic and imaginative tale to astonish. So pick up your dice, and lets start telling it! Can't wait to see what you all create, and to borrow a phrase from The Man himself Excelsior!

About me

Greetings Adventurers! My name is Spencer, and as a lifelong sci-fantasy nerd with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre (in acting and writing) I like to say I've been preparing to be a Game Master my whole life! I have experience in DnD, the Daggerheart playtest, and the Marvel Multiverse RPG, all great systems that I've had a blast learning, mastering, and determining the best parts of. Structurally I try for an even blend of mysteries, combat, and roleplay encounters, each one designed to feel different from the last. A great RPG session, in my book, doesn't end until there's been a laugh out loud moment, a heart-touching moment, a full table gasp, and a full table cheer. I have a strong sense of "Rule of Cool," a narrative and party-centered focus, and a knack for a dynamic twist of circumstance. So new to games or an old pro, it would be my pleasure to Narrate/DM/GM your next incredible RPG experience. Grab your dice friends. Let's begin!

Spencer creates rich, detailed playgrounds for his players to shine. With a great balance of combat and character moments, his stories make every player feel useful and important. His theatre background shows: his NPCs are fully realized and a joy to interact with, hilarious, dramatic, and suspenseful by turns. And as a writer, his world building is top notch, with clear sensory descriptions of settings and well-crafted threads of plot intrigue for the players to explore. Most of all, Spencer is a kind and safe person, facilitating adventures with an open mind and a welcoming presence. He keeps everyone engaged and tailors his support to each player’s experience level, from absolute beginners to RPG veterans. Never one to railroad his players, he pivots with ease, no matter how outlandish the players’ choices may be.

I've been a player in an offline Marvel Multiverse RPG campaign that The Spencer has been running for over a year, and he's fantastic! He puts crazy amounts of forethought and creativity into his world building and encounter design, and is great about working with his players so that they feel invested in their own character and the game world at large. He is charming and has a great sense of humor and pacing. If you get a chance to play one of his games, you won't regret it.

Spencer creates amazing, fun, dynamic, and thrilling adventures! He creates unique challenges that are of course challenging while also always having a way to defeat the big bad. He does INCREDIBLE acting/voice acting for each NPC you encounter which further brings you into the amazing world he creates! Seriously, his world building is unreal. He cares about each players experience and constantly changes things up for dynamic and interesting game play. He is dedicated to his stories, and will ruin all other Game Masters for you. So why not try the best of the best? Spencer’s amazing!!!

Character creation
Creating your character

The welcome email contains a link to a Demiplane group. Create an account if needed, join the group, and as soon as your invitation is accepted you should be able to access the Marvel Multiverse Roleplaying Game character creator. There are pre-generated characters that can be edited to suit your needs, or you can start from scratch! Please email your character once it's completed so it can be checked and approved. Homebrew Power Sets are available upon request which can be recorded in your notes section.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You will need: Roll20 account Demiplane Account Microphone+webcam 3d6 ideally with one of a different color (Digital obviously fine, and Demiplane DOES have a built in rolling system) a piece of art representing your character (found, made, AI generated, stick figure, however you want to show your character on the virtual tabletop!)

What The Spencer brings to the table

RESOURCES: I'll be providing access to the Core Rulebook through Demiplane, also granting access to their comprehensive character builder! Games will take place in Roll20 on custom data-centric maps! Access to a Google Doc of homebrewed Power Sets, and the option for new custom Iconic Weapons! NARRATOR STYLE: Combat encounters are the bread and butter of superhero stories so I make sure to keep each one fresh, unique, and impacted by roleplay. In true comic book style, I often employ multiple objectives, and seemingly overpowered threats with exploitable weaknesses! ALL parts of the game will be set up to challenge but not overwhelm players, and invite outside the box thinking. Investigation, key NPC interactions, stealth, and search and rescue will be my most prominent scenes and encounters outside of direct combat. Creative application of abilities outside of rules as written can absolutely be discussed and as a Rule of Cool driven DM I'm very likely to honor them within reason! While playing, I love immersing players into the world of the story! I use character voices and music to build ambiance, and love to reward players for in-character decisions and teamwork. I'll use all the tools at my disposal to make every setting, character, and moment come to life as we play!

Safety
How The Spencer creates a safe table

The entry survey will include Lines and Veils, topics that players want handled sensitively or avoided entirely. A brief Session 0 meeting will be our chance to clarify story tone and interpersonal boundaries, discuss character ideas and relationships, familiarize ourselves with fellow party members, and end with an optional "how to play" tutorial. During every session I will be monitoring for X (meaning please stop immediately) or N(meaning proceed with caution) private messages from my players to ensure everyone is feeling safe and secure, as well as O messages to ensure people are on board with the next step. After every session I'll attach a simple "Stars and Wishes" survey for players to record things they liked, and things they hope to see more of in the future.
