About the adventure

Some call Seattle the Emerald City. A place of innovation, music, and art, but to some a place much darker. For there is hunger in the dark places; old and unfeeling, it feasts upon the unwary. Ancient monsters, creatures of myth, feed upon the denizens of Seattle and use the city for their benefit. At times their ancient alliances, rivalries, debts, and grudges cannot be contained, and blood flows more readily than usual. In this mix of ancient power and danger, how do you survive? Will you fight for your place in Seattle, potentially earning the ire of very old, very dangerous monsters? Perhaps it is better to serve at the devil's right hand, than to be in his path? Or perhaps you will try to balance the delicate framework of feuds and tempers that might keep the monsters at bay. Or will you, yourself, embrace the beast and become one of the monsters? CONCEPT Emerald Shadows is a different idea that I'm trying. Every time we run a session, it will take place "last night," or "last Thursday," or "a few days ago." Meaning the events of our story took place sometime during the week leading up to our session. Every scene we tell in this campaign took place recently, and the story will be ongoing in real-time, among the streets of Seattle. CAMPAIGN RULES We'll mostly use the standard VTM rules, which are very handily supported by Demiplane if you want, but you don't have to (it does cost money). I'll make adjustments on the fly, going with what works best in the moment rather than focusing on RAW. The two biggest changes are about Factions and Feeding. Factions: We'll use the VTM clans, but the factions will be less of an issue. If you wish, think of it as an alternate timeline. The Camarilla, Anarchs, and Sabbat all exist, and they are present, but none hold sway over Seattle. Every time one faction comes close to securing power, some unknown player thwarts their efforts. In this timeline Seattle as a free city divided into little territories guarded by jealous vampires. Every lick has their own alliances, enemies, debts, and vendettas. Every neighborhood is its own hunting ground, and you'd best be careful in whose territory you choose to hunt. Feeding: When you feed, sometimes the beast takes over. You can't always choose whether or not to kill your victim, because sometimes the beast chooses for you. We'll use my house rules for feeding that use your current Hunger to determine just how well any given feeding session goes. Coterie: During Session 0, the group will build a Coterie. This will work as described in the V5 core book, but I also want to allow progression. At the end of each session, the Coterie as a whole will gain 1 XP (in addition to the XP each player earns). Additionally, every time the Coterie gains a new member, it will gain 1 XP. Coterie XP can only be spent on Coterie Domain and Backgrounds, but it's a way of measuring your group's status within Seattle.

How to prepare

Please have a mic, because we'll be playing over Discord voice chat. If you have a camera and you're comfortable using that, it would be amazing, because facial expressions can bring so much to RP, but it's not required. You don't need to be familiar with the VTM rules, and you don't need any special software aside from Discord. Personal Request: Please only join if your audio set-up and environment are quiet (no loud noises, air conditioners, crackling audio, or the like). I have sensory issues that can be difficult to manage.

What I provide

I've got a lifetime of running different RPGs, the core book, some supplements, my own dice, and an eagerness to tell stories. Also! I'll provide each player a pretty version of their character sheet.

Gameplay details

During character creation, we will go over your lines and veils together. You can set any boundaries you need to, no judgments, and if there's anything you're not comfortable talking about in the moment, you can always text me later or bring it up in conversation. I like to tell difficult, dark stories, not traumatize people.

How will character creation work

I'll schedule a time with you to create your character ahead of your first session. If you're new, I can help you figure things out. If you're an old hand, it'll give me insight into who your character is. If you want to use Demiplane to store your character (https://app.demiplane.com/nexus/vampire) that is highly encouraged, but it does cost money so it's not required. I'll be providing several different options for players to roll dice with. If you have your own physical dice, you're welcome to use them; if you want to cheat, you're only cheating yourself. CHARACTER ART I highly encourage character art! You can draw it, find a pic you like, commission a piece, whatever you wish. The only restriction is: No AI art. I will not accept any AI art for your character, under any circumstances. CHARACTER CONCEPTS I'm aiming for this Chronicle to be about investigation, exploration, and conversation. You're welcome to build a more combat-oriented character, and I'll accommodate within the narrative, but most of the activity will be built around Social and Mental stats.
