About the adventure

Have you ever wanted to play D&D but didn't know where to start? Or are you a seasoned adventurer with decades of experience? Either way, this game is for you! Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk is a newer publication from WoTC that revitalizes a classic adventure and introduces a new cosmic horror twist. This game will take adventurers from level 1 all the way to level 12. You start on the open road, tasked to escort supplies to a nearby mining town. Seems simple right? Ahh.. it's never that simple around here. You adventure, if you choose to accept it, will take you on a journey to uncover the secretes of this little town and the mevalonate plot driving your characters to action. Please know this game does contain horror, eldritch horror, cosmic horror, and body horror elements. We can always make changes to accommodate however a lot of those elements are backed into the adventure. You've been warned.

About me

I absolutely love D&D. While I didn't start playing until the Pandemic back in 2021, I quickly found my place in the hobby and dove right into DM'ing games for my friends. I love the different aspects of the game from combat to social encounters and the way this game can bring total strangers together and tie together strong bonds. All of my current friends I wouldn't have met apart from D&D. I currently run two games for my friends, Phandelver and Below and a homebrew Pirate campaign with all new rules, mechanics and an original storyline; I hope to bring that project to DM's Guild in the near future. I really want to take my love for the game and expertise to you! I think I probably spend too much time prepping my games but that's only because I want to deliver the best possible experience to every single one of my players. I'm excited to get the opportunity to meet you and have you at the table! Happy adventuring! -Sam

Character creation

Creating your character

I will send out a Pre-Session 0 document with all this information. I also like to do a one-on-one call with my players to help them through that process if needed. Some of my more experienced players love doing that because we can often times come up with really cool character moments we would like to see happen during the course of the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need an internet connection, a Discord account, a microphone, a Roll20 (no subscription needed), and a DndByond account (no subscription needed). You are more than welcome to bring your own books, dice, dice towers and anything else you like to the table. In DndBeyond I will enable content sharing, so you'll have access to my library of books.

What Sam brings to the table

We will be playing via Discord chat, I have a few discord bots to help facilitate play. I also have professional streaming equipment for myself (I do not require my players to do the same), along with a streamdeck for sounds and music. We will be using Roll20 for combat and I have all those tokens ready to go. We can even make a custom token for your character if you want! While I think the rules are important, I tend to lean towards the Rule of Cool. With that being said I don't usually add any survival aspects into my games, so I won't be calling out for ration checks or anything like that (within reason. You'll still need to long rest). Spell components are not regularly tracked in my games but if that is something the group would like to do we can totally incorporate it into the game.

Safety

How Sam creates a safe table

We will have a Session 0 to go over everything and I will reach out beforehand and connect with you one-on-one (if your comfortable with that) and take through your Lines and Veils during that pre-session 0. During Session 0 we will go over all of those and your Line and Veils will remain anonymous. As always you can message me at anytime if you need anything from me at all. I'm here to help you stay safe and have fun.
