Just outside San Rafael, a warring pair of ranch owners have a blood feud that threatens to spill over and ruin young love, a good livelihood and precious livestock. When the skirmishes develop into something more, and a body bearing strange injuries is found on the banks of the river that divides the land, the Investigators are called in to get to the bottom of the murder before the bad blood boils over and ruins both of these families. About me

Hi, Wayward Souls! I'm Jenesis, 32, Non-binary, They-She, And I'm hoping to be your guide are we explore the mire that is scary ttrprgs! I have been playing and running games for something like 7+ years, And have always found myself interested in the spooky plotline, the Halloween episode, that one "creepy" level in videogames. I'm a dedicated horror fan with years of experience in everything that makes you jump! Imagine how excited I was to find out that there were entire games systems dedicated to all that spooky scary goodness? Of course, you cant have scary all the time, and so I have also spent quite a bit of time playing regular sword and sorcery D&D 5e, but I do have lots of love for Ravenloft, Curse of Strahd, Van Ricthen's Guide and all the other spooky flavors of D&D. I'm currently branching off into running More Call of Cthulhu games, because I love the atmosphere and feel like its the perfect system to really dig in and explore tension and fear. I have a rules-flexible, narrative, Rule of Cool style approach to Dming, and try to make games that are accessible to various skill levels. I love introducing new players to a games, so I work to make my tables as welcoming to veterans as well as newbies. My tables are safe places for gaming and community, and are safe for players of any sex, gender, background, ability level and playstyle. Safety Tools checklists are mandatory for play and can be updated at any time and I use breaks, X-cards and immediate retcons to ensure that we can have a scary, spooky, but ultimately happy and safe time. I'm always happy to collaborate on plots, characters, campaigns, and do take requests of referrals to new systems! Please feel free to message me for any questions, thoughts, concerns, or concepts, or for any information on my current campaigns!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players are welcome to make characters beforehand, but they must be approved by me before Session 1 and must follow the Down Darker Trails investigator rules, or era appropriate occupation. A full break down is available upon request, though most of the western character tropes may be adapted. ** Reminder, when playing in historical settings, respect must be given to the table and I urge players to shy away from any tropes or archetypes that would be considered offensive. We can nod to history without glorifying every detail.** While I dislike character death, and do everything in my power to avoid it, in this system it does frequently happen. Serious injuries are difficult to heal and shattered sanity can take a character out for months at a time. Players are urged to have a backup in mind.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A decent mic is needed for voice chat, though I am a coward and am scared of webcams. A passing familiarity of Call of Cthulhu is appreciated, and reading up on the D100 system may be helpful to newer players.

What Jenesis DM brings to the table

Discord server provide or in game and out of game chat, Roll 20 provided. Pre-made Investigators can be provided for those who are not confident with the character creation system, with changes available to make sure everyone is using a character they want to play. I rely on a very heavy roleplay, narration, and theatre of the mind style, but there will be maps and tokens for reference. Rules can be change, bent or even broken to facilitate fun. I admit that I can't do voices, but i encourage my players to try it if they want to!
