About me

What's up, Nerds? It's me, The One-Shot Wizard, Tabletop Roleplaying James (TTRPJ)! With over 25 years of Game Mastering under my belt, I've delved into the depths of every published edition of D&D since 3rd edition. My games are rooted in a meticulously crafted homebrew world, a diverse tapestry almost two decades in the making. This "kitchen-sink" setting ensures flexibility, enabling players and fellow DMs to integrate characters, stories, and elements from any realm or setting, ensuring a unique experience each session. My most recent endeavor? A year-long, Westmarches-style series of one-shots designed to take a party to level 20 over the course of 2025. Dive into a universe where every narrative, old or new, can find its niche. Join me for an adventure like no other!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at level one and can be created any time between the beginning of Session 0 and the start of Session 1, subject to DM approval. Any official WoTC published material is up for grabs, but I'm open to other sources to, so feel free to hit me with your ideas. For those new or who don't love making characters, I will have pregens available!

The current party

Games run every other week. Builds and character of all kinds and stripes are welcome!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a mic, a Discord account, and an account with Alchemy VTT. You'll only need the free one, I have the paid version. If you have character art for your PC in mind, that's great! Otherwise, we can work together to get something you like. You do NOT need any kind of knowledge of Spelljammer as a setting or anything like that, we will fill that in as we go along!

What James Bratten brings to the table

I'll be bringing the rest! I have illustrated maps, scenes, tokens; everything we'll need to make it happen. Do you have art you want to use for your character? Awesome, send it my way and I'll make a token with it. Don't have any but have an idea of what you want them to look like? Awesome, I'm an award winning illustrator and would be happy to put something together for us to use in game.

Safety

How James Bratten creates a safe table

Players can expect fast paced combat in a swashbucking, spelljamming setting full of quips, banter, and an overall light mood. We're here for a good time, not a long time. Session 0 will go over the nature of the setting and campaign, character creation, and a general development of the group's tone moving forward, as well as a quick touch base for the X, N, & O cards for anyone who might not be familiar with the system. X, N, & O's can be digitally messaged to me and will be taken into account as quickly as possible. We'll take a break each session when we get to a natural pause point and do short one-on-one debriefs between GM and players out of session, just to check-in and see how everyone is doing. The goal is to be fun and engaging, and to see what hi-jinks we can get away with as we sail the deepest depths of Wildspace!
