About the adventure

Ruled by Duke Artorius Xerxes IV, the Xerxes Subsector is a place where travellers of all kinds can make--or lose--their fortunes if they are bold enough and smart enough to seize opportunities that come their way--be it at the high-tech research facilities of Pleston, the barbaric lands of Halycon, or anywhere in between.

About me

Hi! My name is Allen and I am a veteran gamer with 18 years of experience running games in a variety of different systems old and new. I love exploring new game systems and seeing how different designers handle different mechanics. I am comfortable running pre-written content from modules, adventures, and living campaign systems as well as custom content specifically for your game. I love to learn new systems, so if you are interested in playing a game that is not on my list of game systems, please reach out and let me know. All of my games are 2SLGTBQIA+ friendly and everyone is welcome at my table as long as they can be respectful to me and their fellow players.

Character creation

Creating your character

As part of session 0 we will go through the standard character creation process, which is itself something of a game. Players should know they may not get exactly what they want from this process as many things like the skills you gain, events that happen to you during character creation, and the careers your character qualifies for are all decided with dice rolls.

The current party

Fans of the science fiction settings in The Expanse, Firefly, and Star Wars will find the general Traveller setting very appealing, and the basics of the rules are very lightweight. Whether you've played RPGs for years or are completely new to the experience, there is something here for players at all skill levels. There is no charge for your first session, which covers the creation of your character--a sort of mini-game in itself.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need: - A working microphone (webcams are optional) - A Discord account (this is where we will be handling voice) - A Roll20 account (this is where we will be handling dice rolls and tactical combat) You do not need to create characters or read the rules ahead of time. We will be creating characters together and I will be teaching new players as we go.

What Allen brings to the table

I will be bringing core rulebook PDFs and a wiki containing everything you will need to know about the Xerxes Subsector (we will discuss how to access this resource in session 0). In addition, as an audio engineer, I may bring unique sound bites to game from time to time--this could be narration, sound effects, ambience, or music.

Homebrew rules

I have been known to pull in mechanics and frameworks from other RPGs to cover situations that the Traveller rules don't explicitly cover, but in general it will be rules as written.

How Allen creates a safe table

This game is 2SLGTBQIA+ friendly and everyone is welcome at my table as long as they can be respectful to me and their fellow players. Session 0 covers introductions, use of safety tools (including any not specifically marked for this game) and character creation, which must be done as a group in real time. The Xerxes Subsector is a big place with a lot of things going on and the content warnings reflect various things that could happen over the course of a campaign, especially if characters decide to visit geopolitical hotspots currently dealing with war, civil unrest, or asymmetrical social structures related to gender. These places can be entirely avoided altogether if that is the desire of the party. Traveller is a game of science fiction adventure in the far future where mankind has spread far across the milky way galaxy using advanced technology that is not equally concentrated. It's not uncommon to go from a high tech world to a low tech world and see drastic lifestyle changes between them. The game has a feel very similar to the series Firefly and The Expanse. Normal campaigns contain less combat than you might be used to seeing in other TTRPG systems like D&D unless the players are all committed to a mercenary or military campaign, but regardless of the amount of combat, most combat encounters have the potential to be deadly. Trade, mercenary contracts, heists, and general quests for patrons will likely all include some amount of puzzle-like troubleshooting or planning, and there will always be ample opportunity for roleplay between player characters as well as with NPCs.
