The Mask of Phenax: A Theros Adventure

The Mask of Phenax: A Theros Adventure

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Sail into the world of Theros, the Magic the Gathering Universe based on Greek mythology. A very classical D&D adventure awaits those that play this game. Stories in Theros are about heroes that battle the monsters to protect humanity. The gods of Theros are fickle and their schemes shape the world in grand and unexpected ways. Play as one of their champions and become a hero unbound by the strings of Destiny and the ties of Fate. Create your own reality and carve your mark on the world of Theros by completing epic quests and trials. Expect a high magic, high power, high fantasy style of play. This game is for players that want to feel epic and powerful, slay monsters, and discover magic items scattered across the world. There will also be plenty of room for social encounters as you negotiate terms with the philosophers of Meletis, or the Minotaurs of the Skophos. Puzzles and riddles, as well, play a large role in the telling of Greek epics of old. An action packed adventure awaits! This is a long campaign following the machinations of the God of Thieves, Phenax, and his trail of tricks he leaves behind as he steals himself away across Theros. Strangely large numbers of Returned have invaded the mythic lands and all the Poles are scrambling to find the source of this outbreak. Species are limited to those available in the Theros setting, including Humans, Leonin, Satyrs, Tritons, Centaurs, and Minotaurs. However, exceptions can be made for story purposes. No class restrictions. Homebrew and non-official material must be approved by the DM. Bring a level 6 character concept ready to create during the session 0.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Recruiting notes

If you like playing powerful or optimized characters? This is the game for you! Characters begin at level 6 and start with lots of goodies and other benefits like Supernatural Gifts and Piety. If you wanna tear through enemies and play an epic hero, join the campaign and let's have a blast!

How to prepare

Please have a microphone ready for communication and a Discord account to enter voice chat, and a Roll20 account for combat, when it applies. Have a basic understanding of the rules of play, such as how combat operates and how to generate a character. Bring a Level 5 character concept ready to Session 0.

What I provide

I will have the Discord and Roll20 servers ready, the tokens and maps, the adventure, and any necessary reading materials such as the Theros Campaign Setting and other materials. I make it a point in my games to emphasize fun while trying to stick to mechanical interpretations of the rules of the game. When the situation calls for deviation I try to make whatever decision I come up with as fun for the table as possible. I also try to make my player's characters feel powerful because then I don't have to pull any punches during combat! I like for my D&D combats to be hard fought, lots of action, and dipped in realism. I make sound tactical decisions, based in roleplay, for my villains and NPCs. For me, everything is roleplaying. Combat, social situations, exploration, it's all roleplay and it should all feel like a character being portrayed, not only the part of the session where we speak in funny voices. I try to make every part of my games immersive and enjoyable for my players.
