Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Champions of King [RP heavy, homebrew, LGBTQ+ DM]

About the adventure

The Isle of Kings, known for its many kingdoms that have been allied in peace for a long long time, senses catastrophe on the horizon. Luckily their ancestors had plans for when champions were needed. An ancestor of each of the original kingdom's royal families had a special weapon crafted for their descendants to use in time of need. These weapons of incredible power were hidden deep beneath the kingdoms in the bowels of the isle, and only their kin can find the way and open the path. You are all descendants of those royals - be it still part of the current royal family, deposed and living in hiding, or living a blissfully normal life having no clue who you are descended from. You are called upon by the central kingdom, whose young king and his elder princess sister inform you that you are the one to inherit your kingdom's great weapon in the coming time of need, and that he wishes to band together to retrieve these weapons as allies, and for safety. For there are those who believe they deserve these weapons and will interfere. The game would be a healthy mix of political intrigue, exploring each character's backstory/kingdom (ie going to the zora's domain before you do the dungeon), and a small "dungeon crawl" to wrap up that character's/kingdom's arc. i say "dungeon crawl" because it's my game and well. you know there's gonna be more rp, and plenty of chances to rest and talk, etc. Each character will receive an incredibly powerful weapon at the end of their arc, but won't have access to it without consequences. It is meant to be an endgame weapon in design, and will take a great toll on you once used. That being said, you CAN absolutely use it. You would also be more than welcome to help shape your character's kingdom and how it's history has changed it, politically, culturally, and physically. Or you can leave it in my hands. (: Currently, each of the 8 kingdoms has inspirations from different cultures and ethnic groups of Asia, without being shitty stereotypes or caricatures. Additional note: I know how stupid the name is but hear me out. While I was spitballing name ideas, I noticed the acronym for Champions of King is CoK. I, having the sense of humor of a 12yo, stuck with it.

How to prepare

All you NEED is a mic. Cameras are great because I love having visuals and it makes communication easier for me, but they are not required! Rules, character creation, etc will happen Session 0. Character sheets will be managed on DnDBeyond, maps will be on Roll20, and if you want to connect the two for easy rolls then I highly rec the extension Beyond20!

Gameplay details

Hard rules for all my games: NO racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, bigotry, etc. That includes fantasy versions (ie: "all orcs are born evil and therefore do x"). NO SA, noncon, torture, slavery. (Said things can be allowed, with approval, in PC backstories, and do exist in NPC backstories, but will not be directly mentioned or described) EXCEPTION IN THIS GAME is misogyny! Being the Isle of Kings, and Champions of King... at least one of the kingdoms is very patriarchal. That does not mean it's ok at the table, just that it exists in the setting! And... we're here to have fun!! <3 Will send a form pregame for lines/veils/etc. Will message to go over what kind of game everyone wants to play ("i hate puzzles" "i love combat" etc), touching base on things we don't want in the game, talking character dynamics, working on character sheets, explaining gameplay if new to D&D. After games, I usually chat (in call or in discord) with everyone and joke around - I always try to balance out the harsh with humor, and I check in with everyone after a rough session. X cards will be whatever you are most comfortable with. <3

How will character creation work

DnDBeyond will be our main sheet source, as I have lots of books and can share in campaigns. Lv6, will provide details of equipment, etc in discord. Character creation will happen in discord pregame, BUT feel free to bring a character you already made before the game. <3
