About the adventure
Ravenloft. The vampire's castle on the cliff in the mists. The Domain of Dread. All the horror of secluded Barovia, taking the best of every edition of the module from 1st until now, along with my own custom additions and creations. A unique experience based on the fan favorite module, with the Gothic Horror elements emphasized. Vampires. Werewolves. Things in the dark. Welcome to Barovia. Hold to hope, and try to shine as a flame in the dark. Barovia is a valley encircled by mist, hidden away in a place called the Demiplane of Dread. Some say that plane is in the Shadowfell, or in the border of the Ethereal. Where it is, is not certain, nor does it matter much, because it is isolated from other lands by the Mist, and one cannot come and go freely. The Mist, at times, brings people to Barovia from far lands and distant worlds. The PC's have almost certainly been brought to Barovia in this manner. I want to run a game that feels more Gothic Horror than standard DnD, with an emphasis on ancestries and subclasses that truly fit the genre: dhampir, reborn, hexblood, human. Path of the Beast Barbarian. Gloomstalker rangers, that sort of thing. The campaign is intended to run from 1st level all the way through 20th, with much more content than just the official adventure path. The adventures themselves will also be tuned to the Gothic Horror genre, replacing monsters I don't feel fit with those that make sense in the setting. This version of Barovia, and of Ravenloft, is highly customized. I have my own upgraded and updated version of Strahd.

About me
I’m a military veteran (a long time ago), a father of several wonderful children, and an amateur mythologist, poet, and philosopher. I've been playing and running games for 42 years, a partial list of which is on my home page. I’m here to run games, and make that as easy and fulfilling as possible. Wanna see what I bring to the table? https://www.ofgodsandgamemasters.com/ and https://www.youtube.com/@OfGodsandGamemasters for my written work, my voice work, and my actual plays. I can run nearly any game, and that flexibility and wide knowledge improves all my games. I build deep, intense, and well-realized worlds, but my games and stories are player and player character driven and focused. I'll be glad to work with your table to create a custom setting and adventures that are absolutely bespoke and tailored to you!

Creating your character
We will make characters together, ensuring the party has reasons to be working together, reasons to be invested in the fate of Barovia, and preferably personal ties to and stakes in the adventure. I have Van Richten's Guide, and I *prefer* that most, (if not all) PC's are made using ancestries from that book and other ancestries that fit the Gothic horror tone. Many generic DnD elements will be removed from the module and replaced with gothic horror elements instead. No comedy characters. (There can and will be levity and comedy in game, but no joke characters.)
Timed to be convenient for my European friends as well as folks who prefer daytime play, Fridays at 2 PM EDT, 7 PM BST, 8 PM CST. A rich, enhanced and expanded version of Curse of Strahd and Ravenloft running from 1st level to 20th..
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a webcam and a mic to interact, but both my Roll20 and my Discord have dice tools and the character sheet will be on Roll20. You can use physical dice if preferred. Links to my Discord for joining and to the Roll20 game are in the prep materials once you sign up.
What Jack (Of Gods and Gamemasters) brings to the table
I have *every* edition of the Ravenloft module (the original I6 module for AD&D, House on Gryphon Hill, Return to Castle Ravenloft, the 3.5 Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, Curse of Strahd, Curse of Strahd Revamped) and much of the setting material as well, and will provide illustrations and maps as needed. I have the full Curse of Strahd module on Roll20 as well for the maps, tokens and images we may need to play the game. Elements of the larger setting established in the Domain of Dread boxed set and the Sword and Sorcery Ravenloft setting for 3rd edition may also be used. I bring a wealth of experience to the table, having run not only 41+ years of games, but specifically having run Ravenloft before in 1st edition, 2nd edition, 3rd edition, and even Pathfinder. In addition to my experience, I bring solid voices to the table, especially my Strahd. You can check my Tik Tok or YouTube to hear it. https://www.tiktok.com/@ofgodsandgamemasters/video/7223438567874366762 or https://youtu.be/G97Z8pTNOOc

How Jack (Of Gods and Gamemasters) creates a safe table
I'll send folks my checklist, and we will definitely go over do's and don'ts, lines and veils in session 0. Generally, I just use the term redlight for anyone to stop what's going on for any reason at all, but we can discuss it more as needed. The content warning list can of course be adapted to remove anything that is unnacceptable to the players. The prejudice referenced is toward nonhuman characters as Barovians are not familiar with other ancestries and often think that they are some form of monster.
