About the adventure
Waterdeep, or as it is known colloquially, the City of Splendors. So much to do, so much to see. Maybe you're new in town, maybe you're a local, maybe you're returning for the first time in a long time. Whatever your reason for being here, there's one thing for certain. You need a job or you'll be begging on the streets. The best place to find a job for your ilk? That's easy, head to the Yawning Portal. After all, every great adventure starts in a tavern. Beyond Waterdeep, and beyond the Western shores of Faerun lies another continent. Maztica, or the True World as it is called by the peoples that live there, is a land of tropical rainforests, forbidding mountains, barren deserts, colorful cities, ancient ruins, lost tombs, and new magic! Brought to you by author Jon Hild, comes the Voyage to the True World, the Maztica Campaign Guide, and Monsters of Maztica source books. Using these DMs Guild ebooks, I have put together a campaign to fit the next two adventures from Tales from the Yawning Portal into the Forgotten Realms setting. In Maztica you will find The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan and White Plume Mountain along with side quests derived from the Maztica Campaign Guide and two new styles of magic distinct to Maztica, Pluma and Hishna.
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Dungeon Crawl
A “Dungeon Crawl” is a scenario where players navigate a dungeon or labyrinth-like environment for the entirety of the adventure. It emphasizes battling monsters, collecting loot, and avoiding traps to survive to the end!
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
The team's HQ is Trollskull Manor and Tavern, located in Trollskull Alley in the North Ward of Waterdeep. Our staff keeps the operation up and running while the team is off adventuring. Now, as Springtide approaches in the Savage North, Waterdeep will be opening it's gates and harbor once again after a long winter. That mean's the time is nigh for fame, fortune, and adventure! Current Progress: The team has concluded Dragon Heist and defeated Manshoon and his Zhentarim thugs. There was no sign of what happened to Manshoon after breaking his Staff of Power over his knee and nearly killing the crew, his body was either vaporized or shunted into a random plane beyond the Prime Material. Now that Waterdeep is safe, we have left the City of Splendors on an adventure to Maztica (using the Voyage to the True World campaign module from The DMs Guild), a continent far to the West of Faerun. Now that we have sailed between the Twin Visages and arrived at the port of Ulatos (formerly Helmsport), we will get the chance to explore the mesoamerican jungles of Payit as we seek The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, then White Plume Mountain, and beyond. Currently, we are in the Fertile Desert, an oasis within the Maztican Desert known as the House of Tezca. Here we have found the ruins of Tamoachan, the fabled paradise city from Maztica's ancient times. The team makeup is currently: Haleth Vo'Teare-Vella, a Half-Drow phantom rogue; Dina, a Rock Gnome hunter ranger; Bella Donna, a Shadar-Kai twilight cleric of the Raven Queen; Teagaen Draul, a Dwarven forge cleric of the Morndinsamman; and Maxatl, a Firiji shaman cleric from Maztica (race and subclass from the Maztica Campaign guide). New characters will start at Level 7 with 1 common, and 1 uncommon magic items plus an additional 750gp to spend as you would like (including more magic items!) I have the following Roll20 compendiums for your use during character creation: PHB(2014/2024), DMG (2014/2024), Xanathar's, Tasha's, Bigby's, Fizban's, Van Richten's, Wild Beyond the Witchlight, and Monsters of the Multiverse.
