    About the adventure

The players are senior year Starfleet Academy cadets, embarking on their final practical exam. They have been assigned to a retrofitted Danube class runabout, the Rio Grande, under the watchful eye of an Emergency Medical Hologram. • Table Size: 4-6 players • Session Length: 2-3 hours • Campaign Length: 4-6 sessions This game takes place a few years after the events of STNG Season 7, Episode 9 "Force of Nature" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK5G57f7Ff0). All Federation vessels have been restricted to Warp 5 except in emergencies, and the research being carried out by the players is part of an effort to understand and counteract the damage warp engines have been inflicting on the fabric of time and space. Tasked with measuring warp fluctuations deep in the Mutara sector, the Rio Grande has been heavily modified to serve as a full StarFleet vessel for a crew of up to six people. The runabout is capable of carrying out medical, engineering, and observation missions on a limited scale with a maximum speed of warp factor 5. The Federation has retrofitted hundreds of smaller, warp-capable vessels in this manner in an effort to service all sectors while restraining their flagship vessels to half their speed. The crew was dropped off three months ago by the USS Cerritos and have been on their own ever since. Their instructions were clear: 1) Make a series of Warp Speed 5 runs through this part of the Mutara sector, recording all fluctuations in the Rio Grande's warp field as they do so. A sensor pod has been added to the runabout, greatly increasing its range and power (+2 to the ship’s Sensors System rating. This has a Cost: Escalation 1) 2) Maintain radio silence unless there is an emergency. 3) Do not enter or approach the Genesis Restriction Zone. Two days before their mission was to conclude, the Rio receives a distress call from within the nearby Genesis Restriction Zone. The research station Regula 1 has lost all power and is falling into the gravity well of the Genesis Planet. That news is a surprise, seeing as the Genesis Planet imploded 87 years ago. With the USS Cerritos hours away at maximum warp, you and your fellow cadets are the only StarFleet crew capable of carrying out The Rescue.
