About the adventure

Waterdeep: Crown of the North. Outside the city, the world has been thrown into chaos. Demon lords have risen, cults have struck throughout the Sword Coast, and now the City of Splendors is facing its own crises that threatens to rip it apart at the seams. Over the past month, the Black Network Mercenaries and Xanathar Thieves Guild have begun clashing in broad daylight, while the return of a famous thief from a hundred years ago is whispered of from lips highborn and low. Murders of elves and half-elves in the lower districts of the city are occurring weekly. And on top of it all, Dagult Neverember, disgraced prior Open Lord of Waterdeep, is rumored to have stashed half a million embezzled gold somewhere in the city! Dropped in the middle YOU come in. What starts as a simple task to find the missing friend of famed author Volothamp Geddarm will quickly spiral into a web of conspiracy and competing interests, where nothing is quite as it first appears. In a city like this, clever words and good friends can serve you better than an open blade, but a sharp knife and good aim wouldn't be amiss...as long as you keep the blood off the streets. When everything is over, how will Waterdeep remember you? _____ Hello, I'm Robin, a full-time Paid DM who's been running games professionally for two years now, and I've been creating content for and running this module on and off since release! And now I've been asked to run it again! If you love RP and intrigue heavy games with a focus on your party driving the plot, and rich, evolving urban sandboxes full of diverse NPCs...then read on! Join this module if you enjoy: 🎲An open-ended and character driven urban sandbox where the party drives the pace 🕵️‍♂️Investigation focused gameplay with plenty of social and faction intrigue to dig into 🎭A huge cast of colorful NPCs in a dynamic living setting 🖼️ Beautiful art, handouts, soundtracks, and maps to enhance immersion 🧾A long term, stable campaign with a experienced Waterdeep dm 🔥 One-on-One discussion to help tie you directly into the action, setting, and story ⭐ A safe environment welcoming of diverse backgrounds The party is not already established, and this is certainly an adventure that leans more towards a bunch of individuals thrown into the deep end together that grow and evolve as the story progresses. Session 0 and 1 is free to make sure you're comfortable at the table before fully committing! In addition, the first two to sign up get Early Bird booking on all my games get half off on session two!

Recruiting notes

So far with the current characters people have chosen, we have a changeling swashbuckler rogue, a human divination wizard, a human monk/gravaturgy wizard, and a drow echo knight fighter. The game is still plenty early enough to easily add in another player without hassle. We are currently early in the mid range of chapter two, and there's enough beginning threads of events unfolding that it'd be fairly easy to tie characters to any number of concepts and situations unfolding around the city. Here is a link that recaps everything that has been done from the first few sessions so far (currently updating it after a while of recap stagnation, not complete): https://docs.google.com/document/d/18wioBzN_VFZDxozO0jq3-mseaPeWL8mPi79OjK37Bl0/edit?usp=sharing GAME STYLE: Exploration:‎ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Humor:‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ⭐⭐⭐ Social RP‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Puzzles:‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ⭐⭐ Combat‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎⭐⭐

How to prepare

🎙️A working microphone that is clear, as well as headphones to keep from picking up feedback from your speakers. 🖥️I will need you to have a Foundry account, Discord, and D&D Beyond where we'll start out making characters for me to port to the Foundry game. 🎲If you are new, you do not need to be fully familiar with D&D's rule system. I am more than happy to help you learn! 🔍A willingness to put yourself out there, and help drive the story and dig into more investigative plotlines.

What I provide

✨Every published product on D&D Beyond, allowing you instant access to all character creation options. ✨A fully setup Foundry server (free for players to play on). I already have maps set up with multiple levels, beautiful special effects, and modules that make note taking, time tracking, and ambiance leagues above Roll20 (which I say after logging over 9500+ hours on Roll20 pro tier), and I have worked to make it as intuitive as possible to Foundry beginners! ✨ Extensive Forgotten Realms lore knowledge used to work in more dynamism and world-building into an adventure involving multiple big-name players in the setting. ✨ A dependable DM who knows the setting inside and out, having guided multiple Dragon Heist groups through the city's streets, and who works to have your characters feel real and developed into the story! ✨ Voices, though I am by no means a professional actor! I do like to think I am constantly improving in that area, trying my best to provide distinct voices for my characters that add and do not distract from gameplay, and have been told that I can do a near perfect sheep impression. ✨A high value on communication and mutual respect. I take check ins and dealing with issues you have seriously, and I am always open to discussing issues at the table you might have with respect.

Gameplay details

In addition, here are some documents that give further insight into my DM contract with players, and House Rules that have been used in previous campaigns at my table. Campaign Breakdown and DM/Player Agreement Form: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11WOCxWLcXv-qIpArYR61BrBq7YuEeAuzs_ily6okvqk/edit#heading=h.7i3r640hg6g House Rules Document (I make sure the entire table agrees to all the rules to be implemented. If any are problems, it is fully open to discussion.) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sNueosaGNowFaR5sxafMWbYhw_QJ9pDINXxykLqOfHU/edit#heading=h.gkaganv576uo This version of Dragon Heist is an amalgamation of my own work mixed with bits and pieces I've incorporated from the larger module community and Faerun lore to further put the faction intrigue at the core of the game. There will be situations and enemies that you will not be able to fight head-on, especially in a city setting where the law frowns upon open killing. Creative problem solving, making alliances, and some skullduggery can go a long way to help supplement pure force. The effort you take to learn about the people, places, and events will directly feed into what happens, and the story is one that runs best when the party is active in pushing its direction. If you like digging into NPCs and interacting heavily with character work, this is a fantastic campaign for it! There are a lot of moving parts, so note takers will find their skill sets coming in very handy. In fact, I'll have personal channels for note taking between games that is set up like a journal for your character, and will hand out a point of inspiration at the start of each game for anyone who uses it the prior session. If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask, and feel free to pm me on Discord at shadowkat678 where I will see any messages quicker. I hope to see you in Waterdeep!

How will character creation work

⚔️Boosted 32-point buy with standard 15 Cap to assist more MAD classes ⚔️One free feat, but none with major mechanical benefits and it has to tie to their backstory. ⚔️Starting level 3, to incorporate subclasses into character premises! ⚔️Any official classes, races, and backgrounds that are not disruptive to existing day to day, such as not being able to climb stairs with a centaur or dying without being submerged in water every so often like a Grung. If you give me a compelling enough story, and they're not meant to break the game like an Coffeelock, I'll find a way to tie them in! I have a more detailed document that outlines all listed guidelines put above for mechanics, and also more detailed backstory guidelines and suggestions in the Character Creation Rundown! (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CnjA30jEsc6Vo1TiVFjOJbXCdlGiTvQXFVrOSo_PpYM/edit#heading=h.ltcpjpwca6ha) I also have additional documents that can be viewed for setting lore to tie into character backstories or even if you simply enjoy reading lore! Completely optional.
