Wild West Style: The Devil's Train | One-Shot
Monster of the Week | One-Shot
About the adventure
Yee haw! it's Monster of the Week: Wild West Style! Head back in time to a supernatural version of the Wild West as we reskin our Monster of the Week playbooks to fit Wild West tropes. Perhaps the Divine is now a God-touched preacher, the Wronged is a gunslinger with no name, the Monstrous is a Skinwalker. Let's see what happens when we take monster hunting to the Wild, Weird West! No experience necessary--learn as we play. Every game is different, so come for more than one!
Game style
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
The locals talk about it in hushed whispers: the ghost train that rides the rails on the darkest of moonless nights. They say it calls to those unwary enough ta be out on such a night. They say that when you board...you ne'er will get back off. They say that there be monsters on that spectral train. They say...they say that it's the Devil's own train. But you hunt monsters. You fight back the darkness so that the world can go on blissfully living in the light. So are you ready to do so by boarding ... the Devil's Train?

How to prepare
You'll need a computer/phone/tablet/something and a decent mic for connecting to our Discord voice channel. And you'll need to logon to Roll20 before the game (SEE Prep Materials) to choose a Playbook and create a hunter. And that's about all you'll need.
What I provide
I will bring the descriptions. Loads and loads of descriptions (though you'll have a chance at doing some of that, too), plus ambient music, imagery, and ... monsters. Lots and lots of monsters.
Gameplay details
This game will contain horror, gore, and mature themes not suitable for every gamer. That said, the GM likes to keep things PG-13 to Lovecraftian-horror R-Rated. We will also talk about, and use, gaming safety tools such as lines, veils, and the X Card.

How will character creation work
Monster of the Week is a role-playing game based on the Powered By the Apocalypse game engine. It is rules-light with easy character creation based on 'playbooks' -- character archetypes. I'll have you pick out a playbook on Roll20 beforehand (one 'type' per player, so we won't have two Monstrous, or three Wronged) and then we'll finish character creation at the beginning of the session. But if you join the Discord (SEE Prep Materials), we can talk about how to reskin the playbook you've chosen to fit the Wild West aesthetic we're going for.
