Drop-In Campaign || Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus
Dungeons & Dragons 5e on D&D Beyond, Discord, Roll20
About the adventure
A tenday ago, the Faerunian city of Elturel mysteriously disappeared--reports claim there is only a crater in its place and the citizens who either escaped or weren't there when the city disappeared have come to Baldur's Gate seeking refuge, even though the city is not equipped to handle this sudden influx of outsiders. Worse still, your Grand Duke was visiting Elturel at the time of its disappearance, which is likely not a coincidence, and without his political guidance and command of the Flaming Fist, the city has been thrust into turmoil and people are starting to fear that Baldur’s Gate might soon suffer the same fate as Elturel. In response to this power vacuum and need for reinforcements, you and your comrades have been drafted by the Flaming Fist to help defend Baldur's Gate and protect its residents from whatever threats may be on the horizon… This adventure is set up as a drop-in adventure, so you're welcome to join for the whole story or a chapter at a time. We will play similarly to the Adventurer's League style, where the story will continue each week, and if you are a drop in or new to the table, you may very well be dropped right into a heated battle! The play schedule will be "three weeks on, one week off" unless otherwise noted--be sure to check the schedule for our upcoming sessions! Each session will accept NEW players up to 1 hour prior to game time to allow for integration of tokens and onboarding for Discord. Returning players/characters can join anytime.
How to prepare
At minimum, players will need to have/create a free Roll20 account and join the game (a direct link inviting you to the game will be provided) AS WELL AS a free account on Discord so we can easily communicate via text, voice, and/or video. Roll20 has audio and video capability but it is oftentimes glitchy and I do not want to risk interruptions to your game. Customization/creation of characters can be done once the invitation is accepted, preferably prior to your scheduled session and with DM approval/assistance. Know your character, plan ahead, and strive to be courteous, considerate, and conscientious of the other people at the table. Plan to share the spotlight. Avoid playing the lone wolf, hubristic, or devil's advocate type characters, please.
What I provide
Katie will provide the adventure (including the story, maps, voice acting and role play), an in-game tutorial of Roll20/DnDBeyond (if needed), and will help players navigate the rules of D&D 5th Edition featuring content from "Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus."
Players will need an account (free or paid, but free is sufficient) on: - Roll20.net for maps, - DnDBeyond.com with a D&D 5e character built to specifications below, - Discord, to communicate with the other players and the GMs before and after the session. - Syrinscape to hear background music is optional Basic knowledge of D&D 5e and your character's abilities and features is highly recommended for optimized play time. If using DnDBeyond, please make sure to have the Beyond20 extension so the character sheet will communicate nicely with Roll20. Katie's table strives to be inclusive of all types of players and everyone is expected to keep their "Plays Well With Others" badge on at all times. ;-) The number one goal is to have fun creating and interacting with a fantastical collaborative story! Please plan for your characters to work as cohesive & supportive members of the team!

How will character creation work
Characters should start at **LEVEL 1** unless the recruiting notes say otherwise. -Standard Array/Point Buy Stats -Fixed/Average HP -Starting Equipment -Backgrounds/personality traits Restrictions: no "Magic The Gathering" content (Ravnica, Strixhaven, Theros, etc.), no Ebberon or Spelljammer, and Critical Role content will need to be discussed/negotiated prior to game start. Upon acceptance, you will receive an invitation to your private game, and will have access to various resources within my compendium upon booking your session(s). You can make your own character using the 5th Edition PUBLISHED sources. If you are a late arrival and/or don't have a character that is ready to play, you can choose from a variety of pre-made characters which you will be able to customize as you level up. Speaking of leveling, this will be on a completion/milestone basis. New members will start at the lowest reasonable level within each "chapter" and gain levels based on completion of quests/tasks/sessions as appropriate. Lower levels advance more frequently than higher levels, so prepare for the marathon. This prescribed module/campaign will span from level 1 to level 13, but we may dip into some of the adventurer's league content to continue our quests and advance further.
Players can expect
- Combat/Tactics: High
- Roleplay: Medium
- Puzzles: Low
- Experience Level: Open to all
