Star Wars: Nomad Squadron | Still recruiting, join the Rebellion

Star Wars: Nomad Squadron | Still recruiting, join the Rebellion

FATE | Campaign

About the adventure

Red, Blue, Green, Gold, and Rogue Squadron. These are the units that defined the Rebel Alliance in all the propaganda holos, but they weren’t the only ones. Thousands of beings in hundreds of units flew during the Rebellion and helped bring down the Empire’s tyranny, yet most remain unknown. Join us as we uncover the hidden, true story of the Nomads. Formed in the frantic aftermath of the Battle of Yavin, Nomad Squadron took part in many of the most pivotal battles of the war. Become part of its creation and live the adventure through to the celebrations on Endor in this expansive, action-packed campaign. Welcome to Nomad Squadron. This is a story about fighter pilots. Ordinary beings that strap themselves into a tiny, armed spacecraft and test their mettle against the might of the evil Galactic Empire. Star Wars is full of Force Sensitives battling the darkness but this is about the others, those who threw themselves into the fire with only their hopes and dreams. If the X-wing series of books and video games excites you, or the Battle of Scarif was your favorite battle in Star Wars, then this is the game for you. You will play a newly winged pilot in the aftermath of the Death Star’s destruction. The Rebel Alliance has scattered, hunted by the Imperial Fleet all across the galaxy. Yet as the Empire strikes back, the Alliance forms new, much needed squadrons. Nomad is the first. Answer the call. Fight for freedom. Welcome to the Nomads, pilot.

Game style

Theater of the Mind

“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.

Recruiting notes

Always accepting new players, as the Rebellion is always recruiting! This is true regardless of how many sessions are played. Feel free to contact me with questions! Your first session is always free, and after that the game will continue at its normal $5/session.

Additional details

How to prepare

You should come with an interest in being a starfighter pilot. There is no need to know the rules beforehand and all dice will be rolled via Owlbear or, if the players want, you can roll your own physical dice. All you need is a d6 for this! Players should have a dependable microphone and connection if possible, but a webcam is not required.

What I provide

You can count on me to bring all necessary books and game modification documents. I will also provide character sheets that will reduce the bookkeeping load on the players.

Gameplay details

We will be using Tachyon Squadron from FATE. It’s an extremely easy system to learn and play and specializes in just what this game is about: fighter pilots! It’s fast, it’s pulpy, and it’s narrative focused. With the right amount of imagination and daring-do, you can be the next Wedge Antilles. If you’ve never heard of FATE or Tachyon, fret not. I will be providing all the materials you need. Session 0 will focus on character creation and basics of gameplay. The sessions that follow will ease you into the game and the universe before the real stakes hit. The game will largely be played via voice on Discord and utilizing Roll20 for character sheets and FATE integration. As stated above, this is a game about pilots. If you’re looking to play a force-sensitive or Mandalorian, this isn’t the game for you. If you’re looking to explore stories about any number of those nameless pilots in the Battle of Endor briefing room, then this IS the game for you! Real beings. Real stakes. Strap in, light your engines, and lead your targets! You can expect a great deal of exciting starfighter-based gameplay mixed with character-driven story outside of the cockpit. Characters do not die easily in FATE, so come into this expecting a nice, long arch for your pilot. You can also expect me to take your backstory seriously and weave it into the overall campaign. In return, I expect you to be willing to work with me to make the backstory make sense and to not overshadow the other players. Finally, military aviation is a passion of mine and I will try and use that knowledge to create a story that feels authentic. If you have any questions about the game before signing up, feel free to message me!

How will character creation work

We will create characters as a group during a Session 0. Come with an idea of who they are, or not! We'll meet on Discord and discuss how creation works and walk through the steps together. In addition, a Session 0 will feature a quick introduction to the rules, time allowing.
