About the adventure

The Scourge, while defeated, has left the known world in ruins. Most forests are but a memory, and entire nations have crumbled into dust and swallowed by sand. Shards of once beautiful societies are now struggling to survive, and only a few brave souls dare to dream in a land of nightmares. Come, there is work to be done. Adventure 1) Mysterious murders that have seemingly no connection are now rampant across the nation, with the Queen's consort being claimed as the most recent victim. As a band of new Heroes seeking to battle the rising tide of chaos, the Queen has placed you in charge of rooting out the cause and stopping it before more lives are needlessly taken. Adventure 2) Rumors are spreading, and fears are travelling faster than wind. Terrible stories of a unstoppable force have started to come in from the East, and that it seeks to finish the job that the Scourge started. The Queen, pressured by her people, has tasked you with investigating these claims and assessing the dangers you find. Are these merely the imagination of broken souls? or is something truly wicked on its way? Adventure 3) Legends tell of an artefact with the power to restore the world to its former glory. While villagers have started calling it 'the Eversoul', hundreds of brave adventurers have left their homes in search of its power and never returned. Now that the Queen is facing starvation at the hands of low crop yields, she reluctantly has no choice but to send you off in search of the last hope this nation has. This is a campaign of my own design, centered around a dark and unforgiving post-apocalypse. While the players may be a final oasis of hope in this endless desert of sorrow, most NPCs have succumbed to its hopelessness. The game itself will resemble a detective story with clues, investigations, and secrets. A good mixture of combat and roleplaying that can be adapted to the players preferences.

About me

Hey! I have tons of experience with over a dozen different TTRPGS, and I'm even in the process of creating my own! I have probably thousands of hours as Game Master for various groups both young and old, and I've been an active member of my LGS community for roughly a decade now. I decided to finally throw my hat in the ring and start hosting some games now that friends from my usual playgroups have built up the courage to start GMing themselves (goodbye, forever GM!).

Character creation

Creating your character

While D&D Beyond is preferred for character creation, it is not necessary. Expectations for characters will be made prior to starting the campaign, and players are expected to make their own characters should they wish. Session 1 will not include character creation, so if a player does not already have a character made one will be provided for them. All PCs start at level 3 for D&D 5e, or the same level for Pathfinder 2e. Any player who wishes to make their own character, but does not know how, may request help from the GM prior to starting at no additional charge.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

If online, the preferred medium will be Discord, though regardless a Microphone will be necessary for all players. Players do not need a webcam, even if Zoom will be the medium used to communicate. Players will need to make a profile on Roll20, and if D&D 5e is being used, another profile on D&D Beyond if possible. If D&D 5e is also used, players are strongly encouraged to use the Beyond20 Chrome Extension for easier dice rolling. Characters made by the players will need to be confirmed by the GM prior to start. The last thing we want is vastly different power levels resulting from different expectations. Players do not need to read anything prior to starting, and any novice player will be guided through encounters if desired. If the game is in-person, players will need to bring their own set of dice and a print-out of their character sheet.

What Hart of Gold brings to the table

If online, I will provide any help necessary for new players to create characters prior to starting. If in-person, I will provide some dice, maps, and necessary books (none of which may be taken home).

How Hart of Gold creates a safe table
