The Drow Arise: An Underdark Campaign (Thurs PM)
Dungeons & Dragons 5e on Fantasy Grounds, Discord
About the adventure
“Absence of light results in darkness. So, what results from the absence of Good? The Underdark is a place with very little of either.” Mordenkainen Deep below the surface of the world, dark forces and malignant creatures compete for dominance. Yet, one species -- the Drow -- seek to dominate both above and below. Will you and your adventuring companions be able to prevent a new age of darkness, or will you fail to the cunning machinations of the dark elves - as so many have before you? This is a customized campaign set in the Underdark, using materials from Into the Abyss, Rise of the Drow, and a handful of legacy products from previous editions (such as the Menzoberranzan boxed set.) This campaign is intended to run from level 1 to 20. Characters will level up at the end each of the first three sessions, and thereafter we'll proceed using experience point progression. During our first session, we'll discuss player playstyle preferences, rules options including combat tactical level, safety tools, and my 2 simple house rules.
How to prepare
Prior to play, you'll want to have both Fantasy Grounds Unity (the Free DEMO version is fine) and Discord installed on your devices. If you've not used these services before, don't worry! Newbies are more than welcome, and I try to make myself available to anyone ahead of time who needs technical assistance.
What I provide
I bring the story and all of the maps/mechanical necessities. I also provide access to a shared DnDBeyond campaign containing all of the character creation options.
GAMEPLAY: Over the course of the campaign, players will experience a rough balance between combat, exploration, and roleplaying, though specific sessions may focus largely (or sometimes entirely) on one aspect of the game. SAFETY TOOLS: Lines and veils are used to set boundaries on content in a game. Lines are hard limits on content, things that the GM or the players don’t want to engage in. Setting up a line means that content won’t show up in the game at all. Veils are soft limits, things that are ok “behind a curtain” or when they “cut-to-black.” Setting up a veil means that the content might be in the game but not spotlighted or described in great detail. Lines and veils can be adjusted as needed throughout the game. I will discuss lines and veils with players prior to our first session together.
How will character creation work
Character creation should be done either in DnDBeyond or Fantasy Grounds prior to our first session. Players will be given a link to join my DnDBeyond campaign, which will give them access to all of the published Dungeons & Dragons character options. Ability scores should be either point buy or standard array. Optionally, you may roll ability scores in the campaign Discord channel using Avrae (I can walk you through it if you're not sure how).
