About the adventure

No prior experience necessary! Our adventure begins with a group of adventurers traveling past a small town in Faerun. As you crest a hill and take a look, it seems the town is being attacked by a blue dragon! Whether you stay and defend or flee to live another day, you'll soon discover that something very dangerous is going on and in order to save the realm, it will take some unprecedented alliances with several secret (and some not-so-secret) organizations and a special group of adventurers to figure out. "Hoard of the Dragon Queen" is a fantastic BEGINNER ADVENTURE which takes characters from Level 1 to Level 7, and the follow-up continuation, Rise of Tiamat, will take characters up to level 15 (and possibly beyond) as they finish out the story. These modules serve as an introductory story to get players hooked on the fifth edition of the world’s greatest roleplaying game. Katie (your game master) will introduce you to Dungeons & Dragons via Roll20.net, a free virtual tabletop which will allow us to see our maps, character sheets (how to control your character), and handouts. We will begin with character creation and backstory establishment (a "session zero" before the game /really/ begins) and then we will plug them into an exciting campaign that is filled with lore, role playing, and combat encounters. Katie will help you learn the rules and how to use Roll20 as she guides you through your adventure! Additionally, players who are no longer beginners will enjoy this one as well, and Katie can easily adjust the level of difficulty to fit the needs of your party. How to prepare

Players will need an account (free or paid) on the following platforms: - Roll20.net for token/character management & battle map interactions - Discord.com for audio/text communication (video optional) - (optional) DnDBeyond.com for character sheet management (the player will need to install the Beyond20 extension and will be responsible for procuring the content needed for their character) Players will need a computer with internet access for running Roll20 (it is not very "device" friendly right now). Discord can be accessed on a tablet, phone, or PC and will require audio input/output capabilities at minimum. (Video is optional.) Basic knowledge of D&D 5e and your character's abilities and features is highly recommended for optimized play time, but there is always grace for new players who are learning at Katie's table.

What I provide

Katie will provide necessary maps, lore, adventure, and story hooks, and she will help with "the rules" of the game (though they're more like guidelines to keep things consistent and fair).

Gameplay details

Each session contains different scenarios, so content warnings will be posted in the recruiting notes. RPG Safety tools are readily available to use if necessary (X-card, lines/veils, communication with DM, breaks, etc.). They are there if you need them, and if you don't need them, please be respectful of those who might. Gameplay will include theatre of the mind, battle maps on roll20, and in-character role-play opportunities. The GM will present the obstacles and details and the players will respond and interact.

How will character creation work

Upon acceptance, you will receive an invitation to your private game, and will have access to various resources within my compendium upon booking your session(s). You can make your own character using the 5th Edition Player's Handbook (sorry, no Minotaurs and Hobgoblins in this one) or you can choose from a variety of pre-made characters which you will be able to customize as you level up. If you wish to create your own, we should get them established before the first session (unless you would like a "session zero" to learn how to build characters), and Katie is happy to assist if necessary. We will start at level 1 (unless the recruiting notes say otherwise), so I recommend using the charactermancer in Roll20 to build your character. The charactermancer will also make sure that you stay within the rules of character building, so it's a great tool for new players to explore. DnDBeyond is also available as long as the player has the Beyond20 extension which will link to our virtual table top (roll20.net) so the gm can see your rolls and assist with any questions you may have about your character.
