About the adventure
Step into the world of the 1920s—an age of jazz, steamships, and exploration—where the shadows of the Great War still linger, and the secrets of the ancient world stir once more. Masks of Nyarlathotep is widely considered the greatest Call of Cthulhu campaign ever written, a globe-spanning epic of mystery, horror, and adventure. This is not just another game—it’s a chance to experience one of the most awe-inspiring campaigns in tabletop history. You and your fellow investigators will be drawn into a sprawling tale of strange cults, hidden truths, and conspiracies that stretch across continents. From the bustling streets of New York to the fog-drenched alleys of London, from the deserts of Egypt to far-off corners of the world, you’ll pursue clues, confront dangers, and face decisions that may shape the fate of humanity itself. Along the way, you’ll uncover secrets that test your sanity, courage, and resolve. This is a game for players who enjoy immersive storytelling, atmospheric horror, and character-driven play. Expect a rich blend of investigative mystery, eerie encounters, and thrilling action. The setting is meticulously detailed, grounded in the cultures, tensions, and optimism of the 1920s, while also layering in the dread of cosmic horror. Your investigators may find themselves sipping cocktails in a jazz club one night and fending off terrifying foes in a windswept ruin the next. As your Keeper, I bring over 30 years of tabletop RPG experience and a strong commitment to crafting a truly premium gaming experience. This isn’t just about running the module “as-is”—it’s about making every session engaging, suspenseful, and memorable. My table balances collaborative roleplay, deep immersion, and cinematic moments of action and terror. Whether your group prefers the gritty investigative feel of classic Call of Cthulhu or the daring, pulp-inspired tone of Pulp Cthulhu, I tailor the experience to fit your preferred style of play. Players can expect: -A legendary, long-form campaign regarded as one of the greatest in RPG history. -A globe-trotting mystery filled with cults, conspiracies, and ancient secrets. -A richly immersive 1920s setting brought to life with care and historical detail. -A balance of investigative tension, roleplay, and thrilling encounters. -A premium experience designed to make every session cinematic and unforgettable. If you’ve ever wanted to take part in a campaign that defines what Call of Cthulhu can be, Masks of Nyarlathotep is it. Bring your courage, sharpen your wits, and prepare to journey across the world into mysteries that may unravel the very fabric of reality. About me
Hello, fellow adventurers and dream-weavers! I'm The Daily Dungeon Master, also known as Chex on Discord. With over 27 years of dungeon mastering, I've journeyed through every edition from the nostalgic AD&D to the dynamic realms of 5th edition—and yes, even that notorious 4th edition! I've also run Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, and lots of the 3rd Edition adjacent games (d20 Modern, Future, Apocalypse, etc...). Why choose me as your DM? It's simple: dungeon mastering isn't just a hobby for me; it's a deep-seated passion. Here’s what you can expect when you join one of my tables: -Tailored Adventures: Your play style sets the tone. Love epic battles? Prepare for heart-pounding combat. Adore intricate mysteries? Puzzles and intrigue await. Crave deep character development? Watch your backstory become the backbone of our campaign. -Inclusive World-Building: I strive to create inclusive environments that welcome and celebrate diversity, both in characters and players new and veteran alike. Everyone has a place at my table. -Interactive Sessions: Expect sessions where your choices truly matter. I use dynamic storytelling techniques to make the world react to your decisions, creating a living story where everyone contributes to the narrative’s unfolding. -Community and Connection: I believe in building not just a campaign, but a community. Our adventures are spaces where friendships are forged in the fires of dragon's breath and the quiet moments between battles. Spotlight on a Recent Adventure: In my Sunday Selsuria campaign (an open-world homebrew campaign I wrote and designed myself, originally designed as a West Marches-style campaign but adapted for a single party to play!), a full two-thirds of the party was captured by hobgoblin slavers only for the wizard to escape with crafty use of his remaining spell slots (they were captured mid-long rest), linking up with the uncaptured party members, and performing a daring rescue of the party and others that had previously been captured. Afterwards, while escorting the whole group back to the town, they defeated an encampment of cultists along the way. The cultists worshipped some entity that was not within the known pantheon of deities, and is just known to them as "He Who Whispers in the Dark," an entity worshipped by strange and usually evil creatures throughout the area. Who is this entity? Feel free to join us and find out as we recently had a slot open up due to life events causing a change in schedule for a player (https://startplaying.games/adventure/cm6v1o087000m1ox4k304omf4). Join the Adventure: Are you ready to explore new worlds and test your mettle against formidable foes? I'm looking for heroes like you to bring our next story to life. Message me now to reserve your spot in my upcoming campaigns or to discuss your ideal adventure. Or, join me on Fridays and Thursdays for my “Learn to Play” games (RuneQuest and Call of Cthulhu)! Creating your character
While pregenerated characters are absolutely available (which are tailored to the campaign) and available for viewing should you wish, players are more than welcome to create their own characters. It is recommended that players create their characters using the Dohle's House website (https://www.dholeshouse.org), then transcribe their characters onto their Roll20 character sheet (I would just need a heads up.
We have a pretty diverse and expansive group of investigators, and while there are a list of suggested skills for the group to have, I am all about having people play what they want! Also, we are VERY early into the game, still in the Prologue, so feel free to join!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should have access to a free Roll20 account as well as Discord. Having access to a copy of the "Call of Cthulhu Investigator's Handbook" (7th ed) is nice but not absolutely needed. A dedicated Discord server link will be provided upon joining.
What The Daily DM/Chex brings to the table
I will provide a professional VTT map interface on Roll20, as well as (with player permission) ambient music, audio and visual aids/handouts, and ambient sound effects (as warranted). I am very much a "Rule of Cool" GM, wanting to give my players as much slack as possible while staying within reasonable enough boundaries that the game is still recognizable as Call of Cthulhu. That said, if you want to try something truly outlandish, my answer will always be a "Yes, and..." or a "Yes, but..."
Homebrew rules
I have none for this campaign, but if the players wish to bring some up, I am more than willing to discuss them.

How The Daily DM/Chex creates a safe table
I absolutely have a "no questions asked" Open Door policy. If something feels off or doesn't feel right, PLEASE do not hesitate to call for a break, PM me, or otherwise. All I ask is that I be given an opportunity to address the issue before it becomes a big issue. That said, we will discuss Lines and Veils at Session 0, as well as other safety tools we as a group feel is needed. Additionally, I'm big on taking breaks about the middle of the session, as well as a debrief to make sure everyone's good and still having fun. I fully expect to get honest feedback, so don't feel like you have to spare my feelings. I don't know something's wrong unless someone tells me. While I include all of the content warnings that the campaign contains, I tend to keep things on the PG-13 side unless the party unanimously agrees otherwise.
